3 nonprofits receive BJ’s donations

Three Central Massachusetts nonprofit charities are among 70 throughout the eastern United States that have been awarded more than $400,000 by the charitable arm of BJ’s Wholesale Clubs.

The Westborough-based retail chain has awarded $431,000 to organizations in the areas near its stores. The money focuses on four main areas: health care, education, hunger prevention and self-sufficiency.

The three organizations in Central Massachusetts and the amounts they received, are:

  • Boys & Girls Club of MetroWest, of Marlborough: $7,500;
  • Worcester Community Action Council: $5,000; and
  • Seven Hills Behavioral Health, of Worcester: $2,500.

“We take pride in being able to give back through our foundation,” said Jessica Newman, the foundation’s executive director, said in a statement. “It’s an important part of our company’s culture.”
