The Patrick administration is awarding nearly $14 million in grants to support new building projects for nonprofit arts and cultural organizations, schools, and communities across the state, including 21 in Central Massachusetts.
These projects will expand access and education in the arts, history and sciences, and create jobs in construction and cultural tourism, the administration said Thursday. Organizations receiving funding in this round plan to invest $264 million in their projects. Grants will be capitalized with $15 million from Gov. Deval Patrick’s fiscal year 2014 capital budget, according to the administration.
Organizations receiving grants include:
- Hopkinton Center for the Arts ($450,000);
- Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra, Worcester ($200,000);
- The Center for the Arts in Natick ($180,000);
- Worcester County Mechanics Association, Worcester ($140,000);
- Fitchburg Art Museum, ($140,000);
- Joy of Music Program, Worcester ($130,000);
- Mount Wachusett Community College, Gardner ($30,000);
- Fruitlands Museums, Harvard ($30,000);
- Hillside Restoration Project, Boylston ($22,000); and
- Performing Arts Center of MetroWest, Framingham ($15,000).
“Investments in our creative economy stimulate growth and opportunity in every corner of the Commonwealth,” Patrick said. “Through this new round of funding, we are continuing to create a more vibrant place for our students to learn, our families to live and our businesses to grow.”
Grants must be matched with funds from private philanthropy or other public sources.
