Amie Shei’s career centers the health of the Central Massachusetts population, especially amongst those in disenfranchised communities.
Since 2022, she has sat at the helm of a foundation which has, since its 1999 inception, granted $56+ million to more than 230 nonprofit organizations working to to improve the physical, mental, and social wellbeing of those who live and work in Central Massachusetts. At The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts, Shei has played an integral role since 2016 as a grantmaker, convener, and advocate working to fund nonprofits embodying the foundation’s mission and enacting initiatives with focuses on areas such as early education and care, foster parent support, rural transportation, and school-based mental health.
Outside of her positions at the health foundation, Shei champions unmet health needs of those in the Central Massachusetts community.
In November, she spoke on the data in action panel at the 2023 annual Massachusetts Public Health Association Conference where she highlighted efforts to address drinking water inequities in the state. In January, Shei joined advocates testifying in support of the Regional Transit Authorities Advancement Bill at a Massachusetts Joint Committee on Transportation hearing.
Shei is a member of the Health Equity Compact, a member of the board of trustees of the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation, and a member of the board of directors for Health Care For All, and Philanthropy Massachusetts, all of Boston, in addition to a board of director role at the Worcester Regional Research Bureau.
“My curiosity and desire to constantly learn and improve have helped me get to where I am today,” said Shei.
