Career highlights:What I enjoy most is seeing my work out in the world. One of my favorite examples concerns one of my original logos, designed for a mixed martial arts studio. This logo has appeared on television a few different times. Recently, I saw it on a T-shirt someone was wearing in a coffee shop. It’s fun for me to have that effect with design.
Community involvement: One very recent community involvement project was helping a group develop an event for the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings. I designed a logo, T-shirts and posters for this group for an event that will take place later this fall. I feel very fortunate to live where I do, and I always want to help deserving people in my community.
Biggest success: I like to think that my biggest success hasn’t happened yet. There have been successful moments along the way, and I work hard to make sure there are more in the future. Let’s say making this 40 Under 40 is one of those successes.
Biggest challenge: We had a new, very high-profile client at Elevation. In addition to all of their tradeshow graphics, they had asked us to do pre-show marketing, web banners, ads and huge banners for outside the show hall. It was challenging because the massive amount of work had to be completed within a tight deadline. The end result was a successful event, within deadlines and budgets, which
led to a very happy client.
Mentors: My parents are No. 1. They ran a very successful car dealership for a long time before moving to Florida for a change of pace. They taught me not to be afraid to work hard and immerse myself in the task at hand. My mom actually helped me land my first design job from a client of hers.
Hidden talents:I was a sponsored skateboarder for more than 10 years. I can juggle and I also make a pretty mean homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs.
