PORTFOLIO MANAGER & PRINCIPAL, Grimes & Co.
Company location: Westborough
Residence: Needham
Favorite movie: "Office Space"
Career highlights: After graduating Babson College, I started in the financial services industry as an equity trader at Linsco/ Private Ledger and earned the chartered financial analyst and certified financial planner designations. I joined Grimes in 1998 and now serve as portfolio manager and managing partner. Two years ago, Grimes surpassed $1 billion in discretionary assets under management, a significant milestone in our industry.
Community involvement: I serve on the board of directors of the Red Cross of Central Massachusetts and participate on several of its committees. I am active with the Worcester Economic Club and the Boston Security Analysts Society. Recently I have become an avid supporter of the International Rhett Syndrome Foundation after learning a close friend's daughter has the very rare disease.
Biggest success: My greatest success is helping clients reach their goals. Developing lasting relationships with clients and knowing that our services are truly meaningful and valued brings me great satisfaction. Another success comes in working alongside family members and close friends harmoniously (for the most part), and strengthening those relationships as time goes by.
Biggest challenge: The past decade has been wrought with immensely challenging periods for investors, and working through difficult times with clients while maintaining the appropriate perspective can be trying. Managing a rapidly growing business and wearing many different hats can be difficult to handle at times, but it is also rewarding to have a hand in the future direction of Grimes & Co.
Mentors: My father is my greatest mentor. The experience, wisdom, confidence, and responsibility he bestowed upon me, even at a young age, has shaped my career and my life.
Hidden talent: I can prepare breakfast for a group better than any short-order cook I know.
