2008 40 Under Forty: Meet The Judges

The 2008 40 Under Forty issue could not have been possible without the diligent work of the four individuals, including two former winners, who served as judges. They took the time to consider the numerous nominations we received, and their careful attention and effort is very much appreciated by the staff here at the Worcester Business Journal.

Mark P. Bilotta has served as CEO of the Colleges of Worcester Consortium Inc. since September 2006. Since his appointment as CEO, Bilotta has led a strategic and aggressive campaign to position Worcester and the region as a premier destination for undergraduate and graduate students as well as college and university faculty and staff.

Bilotta has more than 20 years of experience in the local higher education community. He most recently served as the executive assistant to the president at Assumption College, a cabinet-level position he held for eight years. At Assumption, his primary responsibilities included overseeing the college’s marketing and communication efforts, government and community relations and serving as secretary to the board of trustees. Prior to Assumption, Bilotta held administrative positions at Worcester State College and the College of the Holy Cross. He is a 1980 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross and received an MBA in 1991 from Clark University.

Heidi M. Paluk (40 Under Forty Class of 2007) currently serves as vice president of marketing and communications for United Way of Central Massachusetts. In her role as vice president, Paluk is responsible for the design, content, editing and production of all campaign materials for the annual United Way Workplace Campaign. She’s also responsible for media relations, special events, web site content and recently implemented a very successful eMarketing division within her department.

Prior to joining the United Way, she served as director of public affairs at Assumption College for almost 10 years. She graduated from Assumption College in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in politics, a minor in philosophy, and a concentration in theology. She is a member of the Society of Professional Communicators and Women’s Initiative of United Way of Central Massachusetts. She is also on the board of directors at First Friends Early Education and Care, where she serves as clerk.

Darcy Cook is the president and CEO of Safety Trainers. For more than 10 years she has been implementing health and safety programs for companies throughout New England. Cook worked with her two brothers to begin community-based training programs in 1998, and eventually it became her full-time job. She has created programs, relationships and partnerships that have allowed Safety Trainers to become a premier provider of safety training in the New England area.

Currently, she is on the Occupational Health and Safety Board for the Central Massachusetts chapter of the National Safety Council, American Heart Association training center and is a consultant for the National Safety Council and the Initial Life Support Foundation. She writes for several organizations who seek out resources and information about safety and frequently presents at associations and conferences for several industries.

She is a graduate of Dean College, Westfield State College and Becker College.

Maegen McCaffrey (40 Under Forty Class of 2006) is a graduate of Westfield State College, where she received a bachelor’s in mass communications in 1994 and from Emerson College in Boston, where she received a master’s in integrated marketing communications in 1998. Before coming to the Wachusett Chamber of Commerce in 2003, Maegen worked as the communications director of the Waltham Chamber of Commerce. She also served as the director of marketing at the New England Trade Adjustment Assistance Center, and as the marketing director at Grubb & Ellis.

Maegen is a board member of the North Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board, the Clinton Rotary Club, the Massachusetts Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives where she serves as Secretary and serves as regent to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute program.
