It was great to meet more people from the Worcester area - it is such a great city, and the size lets you really feel like you are "at home"!

Set goals, write them down and hang them on the walls, do the most difficult activity first in the day.

Find a way to differentiate yourself, make sure your product or service really adds value, and that you surround yourself with really good people.

I understood that I had accomplished something noteworthy at a young enough age but that I needed to build off of it or it would be lost potential and all for nothing.

How is your outlook today different from your outlook when you won?
It's similar; I really enjoy the challenges and rewards of the AEC profession and love what I'm doing. Ten years later I value all of the experiences I've gained but there's still so much more to learn.
What advice do you have for young entrepreneurs?
Be flexible; be positive; lead by example. Your value as an individual goes up if you can work well with others.
What did winning the 40 Under Forty Award mean to you?
It was fun. At that time the firm I was working for (still a great company!) was going 1,000 miles an hour and the award seemed to reflect the pace we were setting.

I was honored that my work in the City of Worcester was valued by the business community.

How is your outlook today different from your outlook when you won?
My life has changed since I won - we now have two kids and the economic climate has changed (9/11, the overbuilding of golf courses, the current economic downturn). I am more experienced and more pragmatic. We have a saying, "you can't control the top line, but you can control the bottom", so we now focus more on each individual customer experience and watch our expenses very closely.
What advice do you have for young entrepreneurs?
Work hard, learn as much as you can, and be open-minded.
What did winning the 40 Under Forty Award mean to you?
It was a nice recognition of my role within the community. At the time, it was a good reminder that I was on the right path both with my business career and my community involvement.

How is your outlook today different from your outlook when you won?
Totally different industry, however the current real estate market is in transition. We have not bottomed out in the commercial/industrial market.
What advice do you have for young entrepreneurs?
Be educated in your field, be responsive to your clients. Be honest and admit to mistakes.
What did winning the 40 Under Forty Award mean to you?
I was in the first class, so I was very proud, therefore I make an effort to nominate people who I think reflect the qualities of people who were honored with me.

How is your outlook today different from your outlook when you won?
I'm not sure that my outlook is different but my daily life is very different. I would have never guessed that juggling so many balls would be so difficult. I thought I juggled balls then but that was the minor leagues!
What advice do you have for young entrepreneurs?
Follow your dreams but be realistic of what that dream means for your daily life. Be prepared that your dreams may change over the years.

Set goals for yourself and your business, and work to achieve them. Have a positive outlook and bring good energy to work everyday, even in the tough times. Be proactive. Coach your younger colleagues - they are your business's future.
What did winning the 40 Under Forty Award mean to you?
I appreciated being recognized for my accomplishments at a relatively young age. I was also proud to be among the young leaders in Worcester and have worked hard to help younger attorneys that I work with achieve the same recognition.
