A historic Westborough restaurant on Route 9 is closed for business and its owner is trying to find a buyer or tenant.
The 1790 House Restaurant & Tavern at 208 Turnpike Road closed earlier this month and owner Kurt Pearson confirmed in an email that he is seeking someone to purchase or lease the property.
Pearson's company, Bergson Ice Cream & Food Shops, owes the state $10,800 in back meals taxes, according to a lien filed July 9. The taxes span from October 2011 to February of this year.
Pearson has not responded to a request for comment about the back taxes.
In an email to his customers, Pearson wrote that he has decided to move on after more than 40 years in the restaurant business. "The 1790 property - a beacon on Route 9 for over 220 years - is now available for lease or sale," Pearson wrote. "It is my hope that this national landmark be cherished and well maintained as a restaurant, or in yet another new form in the years to come."
Pearson's family has operated the restaurant since 1974. The 1790 House has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980.
