17 recreational marijuana shops proposed in Worcester

So far, companies have publicly informed Worcester of their plans to open 17 recreational marijuana stores in the city, according to new data from city officials.
In total, businesses have submitted 23 applications to open some kind of facility in the city, including retail, cultivation and manufacturing facilities, according to data on companies that have held or have scheduled neighborhood informational meetings on the proposed facilities.
The meetings are a required piece of the state’s adult-use cannabis puzzle and must be held before applications can be reviewed by the Cannabis Control Commission.
Also required are host community agreements with the municipality, and Worcester has now signed three with Good Chemistry, Prime Wellness Centers and Temescal Wellness.
Colorado-based Good Chemistry, which opened its medical marijuana dispensary last week, will seek a retail license at its 9 Harrison St. location. Prime Wellness, based in Connecticut, will seek medical and retail licenses at its 65 Pullman St. location. Massachusetts-based Temescal Wellness wants to cultivate and manufacture products at 141 SW Cutoff where it currently does so for medical products.
One company, Trichome Health Corp., has held or plans to hold three informational meetings for three different retail stores in Worcester: 580 Park Ave., 62-68 West Boylston St., and 288 Shrewsbury St.
Last month, the city sent out a request for proposals for adult-use cannabis retail stores. The city will allow up to 15 such shops to open in Worcester, which is set based on the number of liquor stores in the city. With 17 interested companies, two may be left out.
According to the Cannabis Control Commission, 22 companies in Worcester County have fully submitted application packets to the state.
As of early July, only Headyco LLC, proposing a cultivation facility at 170 Goddard Memorial Drive, has submitted a full application.
