Confirmed coronavirus deaths in Worcester County rose by 12 on Thursday, with 250 new cases, according to Massachusetts Department of Public Health data.
The new cases contribute to the total of 5,550 cases, a 5% increase from Wednesday. Statewide, the cases rose by 1,940, or 3%, to 62,205 overall.
The 12 new deaths bring Worcester County’s total to 265. Massachusetts had 157 new deaths reported Thursday, bringing the total to 3,562.
The Department of Public Health also reported 10,029 new coronavirus tests administered, the fifth highest in a single day, bringing the tally to 275,647 overall.
The City of Worcester surpassed 2,000 cases, hitting 2,071 Thursday. This is a 4% increase from Wednesday with 85 new coronavirus cases.
Umass Memorial Health Care and Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester reported 269 coronavirus cases with 107 in intensive care. The hospitals have had four new coronavirus related deaths, bringing their death toll to 106. Ten new hospital employees have tested positive with the total now being 172.
The DCU Center field hospital in Worcester had 33 patients Thursday with three to five projected to be discharged.
Nationally, there are almost 1.1 cases and around 63,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. Globally, there have been more than 3.2 million cases with almost 233,000 deaths.
