Eleven nursing homes in Central Massachusetts received the top rating in U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of best nursing homes.
The 2015 list bestows “five star” status to four Worcester facilities: Beaumont at University Campus, Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Jewish Healthcare Center, and Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.
Other area nursing homes earning the distinction are: Blaire House and Countryside Health Care, both of Milford; Coleman House, of Northborough; Sandalwood Center, of Oxford; Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center; Whittier Westborough Transitional Care Unit, of Westborough; and St. Camillus Health Center, of Whitinsville.
The Best Nursing Homes 2015 list, released Thursday, is intended to help the millions of Americans who will spend at least some time in a nursing home this year undergoing rehabilitation after hospital stays or as long-term residents, the magazine said in a statement.
The ratings cover nearly 16,000 nursing homes nationwide, of which 3,392 — or 21.7 percent — earned five stars.
The Best Nursing Homes list, which can be viewed here, is a searchable database providing information on care, safety, health inspections and staffing. Facility profiles display health and fire safety violations, performance in important clinical categories and how much time nursing staff spends with residents.
The magazine’s list, in its seventh year, draws on data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the federal agency that sets and enforces standards for nursing homes.
