10. Foster relationships among people.
Introduce people to one another and get them to connect through common goals (even if it's in thinking their group fitness instructor is the devil).
9. Create an energetic atmosphere.
Don't just go through the motions of what you do. Give 110 percent every time to make sure people who interact with you have the most positive experience possible. People are inspired being surrounded by others who work hard, have fun and celebrate the moment.
8. Challenge people.
Set expectations high and people will rise to the challenge. Help them set goals that aren't limited by their perception of what they can or should be able to do. Failing at something can be a steppingstone to success.
7. Smile, engage people and be enthusiastic.
It's contagious.
6. Praise, Praise, PRAISE!
Make it sincere (people know when you're being fake), frequent and loud. Keep critique and criticism quiet and personal.
5. Celebrate achievements.
Everything is a process. Celebrating mini-milestones provides motivation for the larger ones.
4. Listen.
“You can't hear with an open mouth.” Really listen to people and be mindful of what they're saying before offering your opinion or advice. Keep communication open and feedback honest.
3. Emphasize progress and positive change.
Always emphasize what is going right. Don't allow conversations to slip into griping or whining sessions; try to turn negative comments into steps that lead toward positive actions.
2. Coach people to feel confident in their own abilities.
Empower people by providing them with information. Use natural human curiosity to your advantage; when telling them “what” to do, also educate them on the “how” and “why.” Providing specifics connects them to the task.
1. Be a role model.
Actions inspire. Be honest and genuine.
