Starting A Nonprofit
By Paul Kassebaum, co-founder of Genius!, a Worcester-based nonprofit.
As told to Cory S. Hopkins, Worcester Business Journal Staff Writer
10. DO IT FOR LOVE
When your business is driven by passion and love, others will be spontaneously drawn into it.
9. METRICS, METRICS, METRICS
  Â
Make the effort to measure difficult factors that are true indicators of your mission’s progress.
8. ALIGNMENT
Consider the missions of others and attempt to align them with your own. Genius! is helping a group form a web site design firm by having them work on our web site.
7. ASK FOR THE ABSURD
Once you understand how to align a potential partner’s interests with your own, ask them for an absurd favor that you might feel hesitant to request. Don’t let personal insecurities stifle opportunity.
6. KARMA IS A GOOD THING
Remember to keep donating to the good-will cup, lest there comes a time you suddenly need to make a substantial withdrawal.
5. OVER-DELIVER
Taking on little commitment and delivering more than expected is easier than taking on an impressive amount of responsibility but not following through.
4. DELEGATE
Being organized and using efficient delegation will help you get things done.
3. CONSTRUCT CREATIVITY
Construct a creative environment by hiring different personality types, facilitating communication and minimizing management.
2. STICK TO YOUR GUNS
Let your people be your stakeholders, but stay true to your vision.
1. SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF
Decisions made on a micro level can lead to the emergence of complex situations on a macro level.
