Cognex, a global machine vision manufacturer, has named Dennis Fehr as the new CFO and senior vice president of finance for the publicly traded company in Natick, effective Friday.

With more than 20 years of experience across the manufacturing, technology, and energy industries sectors, Fehr will head Cognex’s global finance and information technology organizations, according to a Thursday press release from Cognex.

Fehr comes to the role having most recently served as CFO of 6K, a North Andover-based sustainability-focused technology manufacturing firm. He previously held the same title at Fluence Energy of Virginia, an energy storage products and services provider Fehr helped take public in 2021.

"I am excited by the opportunity to join such an innovative company and leader in factory and warehouse automation," Fehr said in the release. "Cognex is at an important stage of its growth journey, and I am energized to help drive financial and operational excellence."

Fehr holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Stuttgart, Germany, according to his LinkedIn.

Fehr replaces Paul Todgham who resigned from Cognex in March before transitioning to his current role as CFO of New York-based Greenhouse Software, according to his LinkedIn. Cognex appointed Laura MacDonald to fill in for Todgham on an interim basis while it conducted the search that eventually landed Fehr at the company, according to a Cognex filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Cognex, founded in 1981, manufactures image-based products to address manufacturing and distribution challenges for a global customer base.

The company employs 2,922 worldwide, including 554 in Central Massachusetts, according to data provided to the WBJ Research Department. Cognex generated $838 million in revenues in fiscal 2023.

"Dennis is an experienced CFO," Cognex President and CEO Robert Willett said in the Thursday press release. "He brings global experience and leadership that we expect to greatly benefit Cognex as we continue delivering on our global strategy."
