Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions, a British manufacturer of positive displacement pumps and other fluid path technologies, has opened its 150,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Devens that will serve as the company’s North American headquarters.
Watson-Marlow broke ground on the facility in 2021, with construction being led by Framingham-based ARCO National Construction, New England. The new facility is expected to create some 150 new jobs.
The company said that tax incentives were part of the reason why they chose to locate in Devens as the location for its North American headquarters, while also crediting the state’s sustainability goals.
“Massachusetts has goals on sustainability match-up perfectly with what we are trying to do at Watson-Marlow. This is a LEED Gold Certified facility, and we are installing solar array covering the entire roof,” Christine Harrington, Director of US Supply at Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions, said in a Tuesday press release announcing the opening. “When completed, the solar arrays will provide 70% of our power supply throughout this facility at peak times.”
Scannell Properties, an Indiana-based real estate firm, purchased the site of Waston-Marlow’s new North American headquarters in 2021 for $3 million from MassDevelopment, the quasi-public agency running business development in Devens. Following the completion of construction, Scannell sold the site to Wakefield-based Northbridge Partners for $24 million in March.
Watson-Marlow’s new facility joins a number of other LEED-certified buildings in Central Massachusetts.
