GLASS LAB, Inc. is developing glass products designed to reduce energy use in buildings by improving how light is managed indoors. The Whitinsville company prints designs directly onto glass using UV-cured inks, allowing panels to transmit natural light while maintaining privacy. This approach can reduce reliance on artificial lighting and support lower overall energy use in interior spaces.
In the past year, GLASS LAB installed and optimized a direct-to-glass UV printer, establishing its core production capability. The process uses less energy to apply inks compared with older glass printing methods while expanding design options for architectural applications.
Glass itself is fully recyclable, and the company’s use of UV inks is intended to build on those material advantages by enabling new uses without adding significant energy demand. GLASS LAB is training its workforce in digital design, color evaluation, and print quality, shifting roles beyond traditional glass fabrication.
