Dr. Chintan Patel has turned Saint Vincent Hospital into a regional leader in a robotic procedure for treating enlarged prostates.
Patel established Saint Vincent’s Aquablation surgery program after the hospital became among the first in Massachusetts to acquire the technology. He has performed more than 300 Aquablation surgeries, the most of any surgeon in Massachusetts, while Saint Vincent has become New England’s highest-volume Aquablation center. Patel travels nationally to teach surgeons and hospital systems how to implement the technology.
Patel became chief of urology in 2024, overseeing the department’s clinical functions and efforts to improve quality and safety. His work includes minimally invasive treatments for urinary incontinence, and his research career includes more than 30 published or presented scientific projects.
Outside the hospital, Patel gives free educational talks to seniors at community organizations and volunteers with his wife and daughters at Cradles to Crayons.
What actor would play you if Hollywood made a movie about your life? Shah Rukh Khan. I know, he’s an ambitious choice.
Where is the best place to relax in Central Mass.? My backyard. I love the woods, bird feeder, garden, and chickens.
Who helped you the most in your professional journey? My wife, a liver transplant physician at UMass Memorial. Her steadfast support through the years helped me most.
