“This is something I've always wanted to do,” said Tracy Aryee, owner of Her Zen. “Then I realized, I could totally do this here.”
Her Zen will host classes as early as 5:45 a.m. on some days and as late as 7 p.m., seven days a week. Classes include traditional Mat Pilates, which doesn’t use weights or equipment; Sculpt, which uses weights; and Pilates Fusion, which is a mix of Sculpt and cardio.
Drop-in classes are $20 and class packages range in price from $50 to $150, including those priced specifically for students.
Aryee, a self-described gym rat, decided she wanted to make her studio women’s only after becoming self-conscious at other facilities.
“I didn't feel as comfortable going to the gym and just having people look at me,” she said.
As a result, Aryee resorted to doing a lot of at-home workouts, including Pilates.
“Then I was like, 'Okay, I want to open a studio, but I wanted it to be women only,’ because I didn't have that,” she said.
Aryee thinks the model will appeal to many women for a number of reasons. .
“There's people for personal reasons, people for religious reasons, whatever it may be, probably want to have a space where they're just with women,” she said.
Registration for classes opens on Her Zen’s website at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
