Worcester-based immigration attorney Mooradian has purchased a building on Elm Street, with the intention of moving his practice to the larger site in order to meet growing demand.“I hope this will be our home for a long time, and will communicate to the immigrant community that we're here to stay,” Mooradian said. “I'm never leaving Worcester. So hopefully it communicates some stability to them that will be with them for the long haul.”Mooradian purchased the property at 65 Elm St. for $2 million in a deal finalized on Wednesday, according to Worcester District Registry of Deeds records. The site was purchased from C&G Group of North Grafton, an entity managed by Katharina Ikels.The site contains a three-story building, with commercial space on the first two floors and two apartments on the third floor. Mooradian plans to utilize the first two floors for his practice, allowing for more space for consultations, as well as psychological and physical trauma evaluation for clients.65 Elm St., in Worcester. IMAGE COURTESY OF GOOGLE MAPS“We'll have some space where medical experts can come in and evaluate clients in support of their humanitarian benefits, if they have physical scarring or injury from harm in the country of origin, or if they have mental health needs or trauma-induced mental illness,” Mooradian said. “We would have the ability to work with experts in some of this space. So that's one of the things we're really looking forward to, is being able to bring in the psychological and physical health experts into the space to provide evaluations.”The new space will help meet growing demand created by the President Donald Trump Administration’s increased immigration enforcement policies and tactics, Mooradian said.“We are not deterred by any change in policy,” he said. The clients are not deterred, and the clients understand the gravity of the current administration's enforcement practices and the gravity of the current administration's restrictions on certain benefits. But we cannot afford under any administration to be discouraged. We have to keep moving.”Mooradian hopes the new site sends the message to the region’s large immigrant community that support remains available. He has worked with victims of labor and sex trafficking, as well as survivors of domestic abuse and other crimes.Mooradian’s practice is currently based at 28 Park Ave. A graduate of Boston University School of Law, his career has included representing thousands of immigrants, including securing asylum for a client who suffered physical and sexual abuse in both the United States and their country of origin, according to his firm’s website. His practice includes fellow immigration attorney Elizabeth Ahmadi.The building at 65 Elm St. dates back to 1930 and contains 8,232 square feet of usable space across its three floors, according to City of Worcester property records.
