Worcester construction firm Greenwood Industries has acquired Gilbert & Becker Co., a Dorchester roofing firm with experience working on Boston’s historic buildings.
Gilbert & Becker was founded in 1947 and specializes in slate and copper roofing. The firm has worked on projects replacing roofs at a number of historic buildings in Boston, including Quincy Market, Faneuil Hall, King’s Chapel, and the China Trade Gate in the city’s Chinatown neighborhood, according to its website.
Gilbert & Becker will continue operating under its existing name, with its leadership and employees staying in place, Greenwood announced Thursday.
"Their legacy of craftsmanship, technical depth, and reputation for delivering high-level work strengthens our specialty roofing capabilities while aligning with our commitment to preserving the identity and culture of the companies we partner with,” David Klein, CEO of Greenwood Industries, said in the announcement.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition comes just under one year after New York-based investment firm Dunes Point Capital acquired a majority stake in Greenwood Industries. Other companies under Greenwood Industries’ control include Connecticut-based Silktown Roofing and Ashland-based TWC Phoenix Waterproofing and Masonry.
Founded in Worcester in 1992, Greenwood Industries has more than 750 employees. The company has additional locations in Ashland, Milford, Boston, and New Bedford, as well as in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New York.
