Natick-based wholesale giant BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc. said total sales in January rose 11.2 percent, from $586 million to $652 million, compared to January 2007.
Same store sales for the month also rose considerably, up 7.8 percent, including a bump of 2.6 percent from the sale of gasoline at select locations.
In the fourth quarter of 2007, total sales increased 9.2 percent year-over-year, to $2.4 billion.
The largest sales increases by region were in BJ’s stores in upstate New York and metro New York City. The company said overall traffic in stores increased by 1 percent, with the average transaction amount going up 5 percent.
