The Whitin Community Center has hired Northbridge resident Gary R. Wood as its new CEO.
Wood begins his new job Oct. 1, and replaces the center’s longtime executive director Charles E. Thompson. Thompson worked for the community center for 34 years and announced his retirement two years ago.
Wood sits on the center’s board of corporators and has been senior vice president at Healthways in Westborough since 2003. Wood is also president of the Worcester Bassmasters, and active in Cub Scouts.
The center is planning extensive renovations to its Main Street Whitinsville facility.
