Initial jobless claims fell by 4,000 to 339,000 last week, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
The department’s figures reflect the number of people filing for state unemployment benefits.
The number of people who collected unemployment checks rose by 6,000 to 2.5 million during the week ended April 7, according to the department.
The insured unemployment rate, which is portion of all workers covered by unemployment who are collecting benefits, was 1.9 percent during the same week. That figure was unchanged from the previous week.
