WCCA TV lands $200K grant for 9M project

Worcester Community Cable Access (WCCA) has been awarded a $200,000 grant from MassDevelopment to support the local channel’s improvement project at its Main Street facility.

According to WCCA, the estimated $9-million multi-phased project will address building issues, fixture updates, safety improvements and other upgrades.

The first phase, estimated to cost as much as $2 million, is designed to improve the building’s facade and enhance the entranceway to the studio to help make the portion of downtown Worcester more attractive.

WCCA’s project comes after a feasibility and planning study was conducted to explore the project. The group has met with city and state officials to explore other grant and fundraising opportunities for the project, and funds for the first phase are expected to be enough to begin the project by the end of 2018.

Including the grant, about $500,000 has been raised for phase one, according to WCCA.
