WBJ Talk Back: Wind Energy, Working From Home

HOT AIR?

In our Oct. 1 story, “Officials Hope New Technology Will Expand Wind Energy In Central Mass.,” Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Richard K. Sullivan called two turbines installed on Mount Wachusett in 2010 examples of success. A reader took issue

with that:

Did he read the letter issued by the Princeton Municipal Light Department in regards to these two wind turbines? I suggest he do so. It summarizes the issues with the warranty, the actual output of energy (versus what was initially quoted) and the downtime of one of these turbines … which has (resulted) in significant losses!

JOYS OF TELECOMMUTING

A member-launched discussion on LinkedIn about allowing employees to work from home drew two notable comments:

I think that working from home increases productivity. My commute is at least one hour each way. That’s two hours of wasted time in one day. Nobody wins – neither the employee nor employer.

I think it depends on the person. … it takes discipline … The job being performed has to be something that can be measured in terms of productivity.
