VulcanForms is seeking to add 1 million square feet of manufacturing space in Devens, a move it expects will create more than 1,000 jobs.
VulcanForms uses advanced 3D printing and machining to make complex metal parts for industries like aerospace, medical, and defense. The company has presented itself as part of an effort to reshore manufacturing and to secure domestic supply chains.
The firm was awarded $21.26 million in tax credits from the Massachusetts Economic Assistance Coordinating Council to support the construction of a 1-million-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility in Devens, MEACC announced June 24.
The expansion is part of an effort to establish a multi-facility VulcanForms campus in Devens, according to ConnectCRE.com. VulcanForms did not respond to a WBJ request for comment seeking more information about the Devens expansion.
Separately, VulcanForms has hired former U.S. Army officer and Department of Defense official Matthew Rose to the new role of executive vice president of mission systems, the company announced Thursday.
Rose comes to VulcanForms with more than 20 years of leadership. He has held government leadership roles at General Services Administration, Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Defense, including time at the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center.
Rose served as an officer from 2006 to 2010 and was involved in Operation Iraqi Freedom, according to his LinkedIn profile, and continues to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve. He came to VulcanForms from Snowflake, a California-based data platform firm, where he led global public sector initiatives. Rose graduated from The United States Army War College with a master’s degree.
VulcanForms was founded in 2015. The firm works with clients to design parts and manufacture them in its own facilities, seeking to minimize sourcing of raw materials from overseas.
The company has raised at least $575 million since its launch, including $220 million in January. The January raise included a contribution from Florida-based 1789 Capital, a venture capital firm whose partners include Donald Trump Jr.
