Venture investment deals across the nation totaled $8 billion for the second quarter, a 5 percent decrease from the same quarter last year, according to Dow Jones & Co.
There were 776 venture deals during the quarter, a decline of 2 percent.
The median amount raised for a round of financing was $5.2 million during the quarter, up from $4.6 million a year earlier.
The biopharmaceutical sector was a bright spot, raising $1.1 billion in 69 deals, as was the medical information technology sector, which collected $198 million, a 27 percent increase from the same quarter last year.
