U.S. imports cheaper in August

According to the U.S. Department of Labor , the U.S. Import Price Index decreased by 0.3 percent in August, after a 1.3 percent increase in July.

The decline in import prices was the first since a 1.2 percent drop reported by the department in January.

The price of imports from China rose 0.3 percent in August, prices of imports from Mexico and Europe also rose by 0.7 percent and 0.1 percent respectively.

During the same month, U.S. export prices rose by 0.2 percent.
