Sales of new single-family homes nationwide fell slightly in February compared with the previous month, but are up 11.4 percent from February 2011, the Commerce Department reported.
Sales were a seasonally adjusted 313,000 homes, below the revised January figure of 318,000 but above the February 2011 estimate of 281,000.
The February picture was slightly different in the Northeast. Sales of single-family homes in this region of the country rose by 3,000 to an estimated 24,000. Year over year, that’s up from 19,000.
The median sales price of new houses sold during the month was $233,700 while the average sales price for all homes was $267,000, the Commerce Department said.
