U.S. first-time unemployment claims down

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, initial jobless claims – the number of people filing for unemployment benefits for the first time – fell by 21,000 to 305,000 during the week ended April 28.

The number of people continuing to collect state unemployment benefits dropped to 2.495 million in the week ended April 21, the department reported. That is a one-month low, and is down from 2.588 the previous week.
