Union Station officially seeks new restaurant operator, seeks $11K monthly rent

The Worcester Redevelopment Authority has released the request for proposals for Union Station’s grand hall and restaurant space.

As the landlord of Union Station, WRA is seeking an operator for 15,535 square feet comprising the hall, restaurant space, and patio on the train station’s ground floor.

Ideal submissions will include a minimum five-year commitment for use of the space complementing existing uses and a viable plan to host at least 75 annual events in the grand hall, according to the RFP document.

WRA is seeking operators with at least five years of experience in owning or managing a  banquet and conference facility and those who demonstrate a firm financial commitment to the space.

The minimum bid amount for proposed monthly rent payments is $11,000.

The space is currently occupied by Prohibition-era-themed restaurant and event space Maxwell Luciano’s. Owner Robert “Gus” Giordano told WBJ in February the business intends to stay at Union Station and will participate in the new RFP.

WRA told Maxwell Luciano’s in 2023 that its lease extension would be the restaurant’s last. The restaurant has been operating at Union Station since 2008.

A tour of the space for prospective operators is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 3. Proposals are due by 10 a.m. June 26.
