TV Reporter, Author Headlines Networking Breakfast

The Corridor 9 Chamber of Commerce is offering something a little different for its upcoming networking breakfast from 7:15 to 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20 at White Cliffs in Northborough.

The speaker will be television reporter Hank Phillippi Ryan, an investigative reporter with Boston’s Channel 7 and a mystery author, who will speak about some of her many stories, including those on scammed customers and businesses.

“We only have one summer breakfast and we try to make it a little bit different,” said Corridor Nine Chamber President Barbara Clifford. “We try to create a slightly different summertime atmosphere. We have serious programs all year long, which are very necessary and the core of what we do, so we try to have something lighter in the summer.”

The chamber also tries to find a special venue to set the event apart as well, and this breakfast will be at White Cliffs, a banquet facility on Route 20. It was built in 1886 as the summer estate of Daniel and Cynthia Wesson. Wesson was the one of the founders of Smith & Wesson, the gun maker still based in Springfield.

“It’s just magnificent,” Clifford said. The building still has many of the original touches including fireplaces, hand-painted ceiling tiles, stained glass windows, brocade wall coverings and mahogany woodwork.

Ryan will take questions after her talk and will also sign copies of her books, “Prime Time” and “Face Time.” A third book called “Air Time” is due out next year.

There will also be time for networking, Clifford said.

The cost is $25 for members that register in advance and $30 for members at the door. The cost for non-members is $50.

Register online here or call the chamber at 508-836-4444.
