Worcester’s Morgan Construction Co. has supervised the installation and start-up of a copper rod mill at the Zao Kyshtym Electrolytic Copper Plant in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
The system was supplied to the Russian company by the Southwire Co. of Carrollton, Ga., which has a close, long-term relationship with Morgan. It’s the second system bought by Kyshtym’s parent, the Russian Copper Co. The first is operated by NMZ at Veliky Novgorod, Russia.
Morgan supplied the new system with an entry shear, a 12-inch stand, eight 8-inch stands, a pickling line, turndown, pinch roll, coiler and a five-station conveyor. The mill is designed to produce 8mm-16mm copper rod at 12 metric tons per hour. The mill was shipped to Russia last December and was started up in August.
