Texas co. ordered to chip in $27,000

A Texas company that operates a wood, paper and landfill gas-burning power plant in Westminster has agreed to pay a $27,000 state Department of Environmental Protection penalty for disobeying state air pollution regulations.

According to the DEP, Pinetree Power Fitchburg Inc. of Texas was found last year to be exceeding its air quality plan approval limits for nitrogen oxides, opacity, carbon monoxide and ammonia emissions at its electric generating plant at 2 Rowtier Drive in Westminster.

The plant is a 16 megawatt generating facility fueled by wood chips, landfill gas and paper.

Under the agreement with the DEP, the company will pay a $6,750 fine, and will pay $20,250 for roadside brush clearing and the processing of discarded library books.
