Imaging systems made by Hopkinton-based Caliper Life Sciences Inc. are being put to use in tuberculosis research at the Texas A & M Health Science Center.
The research and the purchase of the Caliper IVIS Spectrum imaging system is being funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Texas A & M is joined in the research by Washington University and the Stanford University School of Medicine.
Researchers picked the Caliper system for its high sensitivity, which allows researchers to track and quantify tuberculosis infections in animals. Being able to track the infection visually allows the researchers to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatments they develop.
