Sweetgreen opening first Worcester County location

Fresh off opening its first Central Massachusetts location in Framingham, California-based restaurant chain Sweetgreen is continuing its westward expansion in the state with a new location in Millbury.

Sweetgreen is due to open a store at The Shops at Blackstone Valley at 70 Worcester-Providence Turnpike, according to its website. 

The firm has not announced the store’s opening date yet.

Known for health-focused menu items like salads and protein bowls, Sweetgreen was founded in 2007. The company opened its first Massachusetts location in Boston’s Back Bay in 2013, according to Boston Magazine

The Framingham location opened in September, bringing the total number of Sweetgreens in the state to 24. With the exception of that store, all others are located in the eastern part of the state.

The Millbury location is one of 15 Sweetgreen is working to open across the country, according to its website. The company has over 140 locations across 12 states and Washington D.C. 

Sweetgreen is a publicly-traded company on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SG. Its stock sat at $5.30 per share as of Tuesday morning, down from a price of $6.66 one month ago.
