The cost of health care for employers and employees is still increasing, but at a slower rate, according to the United Benefit Advisors (UBA), a national, independent benefits advisory organization.
According to its 2012 UBA Health Plan Survey of 17,905 plans from 11,711 employers, the UBA found that the cost of employer-sponsored health plans increased five percent from last year, though the figure is smaller than the 8.2-percent increase in 2011.
In Massachusetts, the cost of health insurance for all plan types increased 4.6 percent, down from 9.3 percent in 2011, according to the survey. The slowed rate of increases is due to insurance company negotiations, companies switching insurance carriers for lower rates and plan design changes, according to UBA.
At an average annual cost of $11,004 per employee, Massachusetts health plans are still the third most expensive in the country, after Alaska ($11,926) and New York ($11,308), according to UBA.
