State’s Jobless Rate Down 0.1%

The state’s unemployment rate decreased from 8.9 percent in October to 8.8 percent in November as key sectors added jobs, the state Office of Labor and Workforce Development said.

Jobs were down by 1,700 in November, 2.5 percent from a year ago.

The education and health services sector added 3,100 jobs during the month. The professional, scientific and business services sector added 1,200. Manufacturing added 900 and construction gained 200.

However, the trade, transportation and utilities sector lost 2,100 jobs. The “other services” sector lost 1,700. Government shed 900 jobs and the leisure and hospitality sector lost 200.

The national unemployment rate for November was 10 percent, down from 10.2 percent the prior month.
