Vanguard Health Systems, parent of Worcester’s St. Vincent Hospital and Framingham’s MetroWest Medical Center, has joined the Cambridge-based Dossia Consortium, a nonprofit health records company.
Dossia is made up of 10 large employers, including Wal-Mart, AT&T, BP America and sanofi-aventis. The organization provides employees with access to health data through personally controlled health records.
The Dossia plan helps lower health care costs for employers by putting responsibility for employees’ health and health care on the employees themselves. The system also allows employees to transport their health care records from one job to another.
The system’s goal is to establish a web-based infrastructure for storing and managing the health information of individual employees through private electronic health records.
