Sterling-based Space Age Electronics has broadened its safety-related product base through the acquisition of Gemcom, an Illinois-based firm focused on devices and accessories for fire alarm and fire suppression systems.
Gemcom makes specialized switches, display panels, and signs used by fire-alarm and fire-suppression system manufacturers to help monitor, control and identify life-safety equipment.
Space Age CEO Matt Grady said in a Thursday announcement of the acquisition that Gemcom’s product line fits well with Space Age’s offerings, strengthening its ability to serve the fire suppression and detection markets.
Space Age was acquired by Hopedale-based private equity firm DelCam Capital in 2024.
Gemcom will now operate as part of Space Age Electronics. Financial terms of Space Age’s acquisition of Gemcom were not disclosed.
“The business has been in my family for nearly four decades, and I wanted to be sure it continued in the right hands,” Gemcom President John Kelly said in the announcement. “DelCam and Space Age share a commitment to the industry, to the product, and to the people who have built this company alongside me.”
This is the second fire safety firm Space Age and DelCam have acquired this year, after purchasing Indiana-based SprinkGuard in June.
Space Age’s September 2025 acquisition of North Carolina-based Gaston Electronics strengthened its ability to build and assemble electronic control boxes and other components of fire protection systems and other building systems, according to a company announcement at that time.
DelCam focuses on acquiring and growing niche American manufacturing businesses, focusing on companies with $500,000 to $5 million in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, according to its website.
Space Age was founded in 1963 and now maintains relationships with over 1,000 life safety contractors and firms, according to the announcement.
