The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory has given Southborough-based Protonex Technology Corp. another $1.62 million for the development of fuel cell systems for unmanned aircraft.
The company’s work is now focused on increasing the power output and efficiency of its fuel cells. Its efforts have increased the range of the Navy’s unmanned aircraft significantly.
The company expects the Navy work to provide greater access to military and commercial markets.
