Slower growth predicted for summer

The U.S. economy could grow at a very slow pace this summer, according to indicators tracked by the Conference Board.

The research group said its index of leading economic indicators fell to 0.5 percent in April.

An already slow core economy and a slow housing market could have an effect on consumer spending and hiring this summer, according to the board.

On the upside, the leading index increased by a revised 0.6 percent in March. The index was down 0.6 percent in February.
