Northland Industrial Truck Co. Inc. of Shrewsbury will pay a $5,900 fine and complete a $12,858 environmental project as a penalty for violating state air pollution and hazardous waste regulations.
According to the state Department of Environmental Protection, Northland, which sells and services materials handling lift equipment, “generated odors when operating its wastewater evaporation system.” Northland also failed to “follow good engineering practices” with regard to the evaporator, and failed to comply with state waste oil management regulations.
The violations were found during a 2006 inspection. The consent order that lays out the fine and other penalties was signed recently. The $12,858 “supplemental environmental project” includes the pruchase and donation of first responder equipment to the Shrewsbury fire department.
