Framingham-based human services nonprofit Advocates Inc. is in the process of moving its headquarters to Marlborough.
Construction is ongoing at 251 Locke Drive in Marlborough on Advocates’ new 80,000-square foot headquarters and training center, Harvard-based Maugel DeStefano Architects announced Friday.
The project is expected to be completed in October, with the new office providing Advocates with more amenities and a more flexible workspace. The move to Marlborough comes as former Advocates CFO Regina Marshall succeeded longtime CEO Diane Gould in July as the nonprofit’s new leader.
Boston Andres Capital owns 251 Locke Drive, a 14.8-acre site featuring a roughly 160,000-square foot building, having purchased it for $3.46 million in 2016, according to real estate data firm CoStar.
The site is managed by Boston-based firm Related Beal, according to Maugel DeStefano. Medical equipment manufacturer Candela Medical Corp. is another tenant at the site, according to Google Maps listings.
Boxborough-based Sterling Construction is serving as general contractor for the project, with Littleton-based BLW Engineers providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services.
Maugel DeStefano previously worked with Advocates to complete renovations of its 14,000-square-foot Community Behavioral Health Center at 1094 Worcester Road in Framingham and is working with Advocates on other projects in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the architectural firm said.
Advocates provides support to individuals and families facing addiction, autism, brain injuries, intellectual and developmental disabilities, aging-related needs, and mental health challenges.
Advocates is the second-largest human services nonprofit in Central Massachusetts, with $237.3 million in total revenue, $126.7 million in total assets, and 1,810 local employees, according to information provided to the WBJ Research Department.
