Sales up at TJX

The TJX Cos. Inc. of Framingham reported May sales rose 9 percent compared with last year. Sales for the four-week period ended June 2 stood at $1.4 billion, the company said.

The consolidated comparable store sales rose 5 percent, which was unexpected, according to company officials.

“We are pleased with our consolidated comparable store sales increase of 5 percent that was above our expectations,” said Carol Meyrowitz, president and CEO of TJX. “We were able to take advantage of the great opportunities in the marketplace, flowing fresh brands and fashions to our stores, which resulted in strong sales trends throughout the month.”

TJX operates 832 T.J. Maxx, 766 Marshalls, 273 HomeGoods, 128 A.J. Wright and 35 Bob’s Stores across the country.
