The operators of Castle Cantina Tapas Bar & Restaurant in Leicester have bought the distinct property for $1.35 million.
An entity managed by two members of the Quiñones family behind Castle Cantina purchased the building and land on Friday from an entity belonging to Leicester resident Stephen Barrett, according to Worcester District Registry of Deeds records.
The restaurant is run by Suhaily Quiñones, with her brother Carlos Quiñones and husband Jose Flores serving as silent partners, according to Pulse Magazine. Up until the sale, Castle Cantina had been leasing the space from Barrett, according to the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.
Castle Cantina opened at the site in 2022, offering fusion dishes inspired by Mexican and Spanish cuisine.
Barrett purchased the property for $1 million in September 2021 from Evangeline and James Nicas, part of the family which had operated The Castle Restaurant at the site for seven decades, before it closed earlier that year. Guests at the landmark restaurant over the years included culinary TV personality Julia Child.
The distinct building at 1230 Main St. sits on the shore of Sargent Pond and resembles a castle, with exposed wooden beams and stone tile flooring giving the interior a medieval feel.
The 8,448-square-foot restaurant sits on 1.6 acres of land, with a 2025 tax assessment value of $960,200, according to Town of Leicester property records.
