Among the 88,508 state employees, the average salary is $63,180 and the average age is 47.3, according to the latest annual report examining the Massachusetts State Employees’ Retirement System.
The office of Treasurer Deborah Goldberg, who oversees the State Retirement Board, circulated the board’s summer newsletter Thursday, which includes highlights of the latest Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission’s valuation report.
The report, based on data as of Dec. 31, 2014, estimates the system is 67.5 percent funded, with an unfunded actuarial liability of just under $11 billion.
In addition to active state employees, there are 57,774 state retirees and survivors, with an average age of 71.9, who are receiving average annual benefits of $30,819.
