Worcester State Rep. John J. Binienda has been named chairman of the House Committee on Rules.
The Rules Committee helps determine how various pieces of legislation will be considered and adjusts House rules to expedite its business.
“I am very pleased that Speaker [Robert] DeLeo has given me this responsibility and opportunity,” the representative said in a statement.
Binienda represents the town of Leicester, Worcester’s Ward 7 and portions of Ward 8. He has held the office since 1987.
