New England’s unemployment rate remained steady in July at 7.9 percent but remains below the national rate of 9.1 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The region’s unemployment rate compares to an 11.2 percent rate in the Pacific region – the highest in the nation – and 6.8 percent in the West North Central states, the lowest in the country.
New Hampshire has the lowest unemployment rate of New England states at 5.2 percent, followed by Vermont at 5.7, Massachusetts at 7.6, Maine at 7.7 and Rhode Island at 10.8 percent, which is one of the highest in the country.
