As part of his $36.4 billion state budget proposal for fiscal year 2015, Gov. Deval Patrick wants to extend the state’s 6.25-percent sales tax to soda and candy, which would raise a projected $57 million. Soda and candy have been popular targets around the country for those who believe taxing them can curb obesity, but in last week’s Flash Poll, voters showed little appetite (pardon the pun) for it.
